2.a tragic accident occurred in Jeongja-dong

On the 5th of October, a tragic accident occurred in Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, where the Jeongjagyo Bridge pedestrian path collapsed, resulting in two casualties. The incident happened too fast that in just three to four seconds, the entire walkway collapsed, and a citizen who was walking with an umbrella fell down with a traffic light.
The situation at the time of the collapse of the Jeongjagyo Bridge pedestrian path was recorded in the 7-8 seconds of black box videos. The videos are now rapidly circulating in the Internet community, showing how the citizen walks about ten steps before the entire walkway collapses in an instant, making the citizen fall to the right and disappear in the video.
It is alarming to know that it took only three to four seconds for the Jeongjagyo Bridge walkway to collapse. The video showed the bottom of the walkway, traffic lights, and road guardrails collapsing toward the Tancheon walkway under the bridge at once. The incident is believed to have shown symptoms of a pre-collapse, as just before the accident, the traffic light on the bridge was already slightly tilted to the right.
A police official who checked CCTV footage of the incident said, "The walkway of Jeongjagyo Bridge collapsed in an instant," adding that "A closer investigation is needed on the cause of the accident."
On the same day, at 9:45 a.m., one pedestrian path of Jeongjagyo Bridge, a bridge across Tancheon Stream, collapsed. The accident resulted in a woman in her late 30s being taken to the hospital with cardiac arrest, but unfortunately died. A man in his 30s suffered a back injury and is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
It is a heartbreaking incident that emphasizes the importance of ensuring the safety of pedestrian paths and bridges.
